Dr Iztok Livk Research Engineer

Iztok Livk received his PhD in Chemical Iztok Livk is a research project leader within CSIRO Process Science and Engineering division with a strong research interest in crystallisation and precipitation, process modelling, optimisation and control, and alumina quality. Presently, he has been leading two AMIRA collaborative projects, P521 and P575, on investigating gibbsite precipitation and alumina quality issues.

Iztok received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 1997. He spent a year at Curtin University of Technology as postdoctoral researcher working on population balance modelling and control of crystallisation processes. In 2000, he joined CSIRO at Waterford as a research scientist to primarily contribute to the advancement of precipitation technology. His research in this area has been focused on population balance modelling of gibbsite precipitation and improving mechanistic understanding of precipitation kinetics, such as crystal growth, agglomeration, and nucleation. Through his association with Parker Centre, he has gained a wide-range of experience in numerical modelling of different unit operations used in hydrometallurgical operations. Within the AMIRA P266 Thickener Technology team, he contributed to the area of sedimentation modelling and thickener control.

Formerly a keen skier, he had to adapt to a sunny West Australian climate by eagerly embracing bike riding and occasional sand-skiing on Indian Ocean sand dunes.
